Kai Kristiansen
Kai Kristiansen is a key proponent of Danish Modern with his work embodying the clean lines, intelligent engineering and beautiful aesthetics which are the hallmarks of the national style. Kristiansen trained at the Danish Academy of Fine Arts under the famed Kaare Klint, whose influence is indelible on his furniture designs. Klint is seen as a forefather to Danish Modern, teaching many of the celebrated practitioners in the 1950s and 60s and Kristiansen is no exception: his designs reflect the importance of ergonomics espoused by Klint, always envisaging the user at the heart of his conception. His designs are noted for their elegance and simplicity, which are often enlivened by jaunty angles and unique flourishes, characteristically wacky “eye” handles.
