Cor Alons

Cor Alons designed these chairs in 1953 and they show a designer responding to the present conditions with a palpable excitement. Their use of plywood was cutting edge and he evidently takes joy in its malleability. They seem alive with the moment and sum up the flair and slight wackiness we associate with postwar design. What is even more extraordinary, is that at this stage, Cor Alons was 61, having been born in Gronigen in 1892. However, considering the rest of his career, there should be no cause for surprise. Cor Alons was a multi talented designer who was constantly turning his hand to new crafts, be it industrial design, interior design, book design, ceramic design, even stained glass windows!
